HONBASHO: A Grand Sumo Skirmish Game (Ashcan Edition)
HONBASHO is a 1v1 skirmish game that simulates modern sumo wrestling. It is quick to pick up and fast to play. Each turn, players will use a variation of rock paper scissors to select techniques to attempt, then roll d6 plus any modifiers to determine which technique is successful.
Honbasho came from a desire to teach about sumo with a game, more so than making a sumo game. Terminology, structure, and vibes have been maintained as much as possible, and the full release will contain much more information. My hope is that after someone plays this game, they will have a basic understanding of sumo and can watch and enjoy it.
This is an early draft. The game is rules complete, but will be further expanded with art, layout, a primer on sumo wrestling, paper standees, and possibly custom minis.

So if both rikishi throw a rare but hilarous double henka, do they both move back two spaces and start the fight from there? Or would the rikishi just apply the "any other technique vs Henka" rule, whoever has the highest 2d6 gets advantage on the next turn?
In my mind they both throw themselves to the ground in shame, haha. But in the game, the "any other technique vs Henka" rule applies. No advantage given and you move on to the next turn.
In the full release, more explanations like that will be provided throughout.
Fun idea!
Thank you!
A sumo game made by a legit fan of the sport?! Hell yeah!
